How to Deal With Loose Skin

So you've lost a substantial amount of weight, that's awesome. Good for you! Now we have another issue to deal with though. You want to look good without clothes but it's tough with this loose skin that still hangs off your midsection. This is also a worrisome point for people who are looking to lose a lot of weight but haven't yet. I can try to offer my two cents on the issue, although I haven't entirely solved it myself. Again, I'm also pretty new to this whole skinny thing.
I've spent a lot of time in several weight loss forums online and have a personal trainer/dietician and a doctor who I've talked to about these things and the best advice I've heard on the subject is this: Wait for a year after your weight loss to start worrying about loose skin. Many times, fresh after losing a substantial amount of weight, people may go out and get cosmetic surgery to solve the problem of loose skin, which may be the only remedy in the case that you lost an extremely large amount of weight.

Many times however, if you're still young and/or relatively healthy and you didn't lose something like 3 or 400 lbs. the problem will most likely work to correct itself. In this case your skin is still pretty healthy and your blood flow/circulation will help to get oxygen and nutrients to the skin and cause it to naturally mold to your new body. It just takes some time for your skin to get used to the new size of your body but once it does it should tighten up. Another good measure to take in the battle against loose skin is weight training. As I've said before, weight training helps to firm things up a bit. Try some abdominal routines or arm routines if those are your problem areas, which they usually are. Also consult a trainer if you feel the need, they may know more about fitness than some lowly internet voice. It may not be a magic bullet, but it could help. As a last resort, you could consider cosmetic surgery if there is a substantial amount of loose skin that toning and a year's time aren't going to get rid of. But like I said, only consider that as a last resort.

Surgery is not only expensive, but extremely stressful and incapacitating. It's not something you want to go through with if you don't have to. Like the diet itself, the solution to the problem of loose skin, is in most cases, patience.
